Sounds like you have switched and constant power flipped. The yellow wire going into the radio should be at 12 volts all the time. The red wire should show 12 volts when the key is on, and then no voltage when the is off. Negative. Yellow to yellow, red to red. It keeps all the other settings stored except the clock.
next I found the diagrams for both my model of vehicle and the kenwood and made sure I connected the right wires. I checked the fuses in case any were blown. one blew on one of my trial runs but I replaced it. I tested it in another car so the head unit is not the issue.
